GM still makes a profit with the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans. Over 40,000 units were sold this year in 2024. These vans use an older style design that has been in production for years, while Ford abandoned the older design for a taller one, and some will say "more stylish design." These lower profile vans have been around since the 1960's, and their still going strong today for GM.
GM vans are competitive because they are priced right, reliable and they get the job done. The latest generation GM vans have been in production since 1996, and when you have a vehicle that's been in production for that long, problems tend to get worked out making the Cheverot Express and GMC Savana vans very reliable.
Cost for vehicles have skyrocketed in the last 10 years. That's true for all vehicles, but GM vans are still lower priced than the competition making them more cost effective and a better value. This factor is very important for companies that use these vans for fleet use. The combination of lower cost and good reliability is a very desirable combination.
I have some experience with GM vans, and I would say it's a descent vehicle from what I experienced. Service and support is top notch. There is no shortage of parts for these vans, and they seem to be fairly easy to work on. I know that feature is important for fleet use.
The one thing you can't do with these vans is stand up in them unless your extremely short. Other than that, I don't think you can go wrong using a GM van whether it's for hauling passengers or cargo. And remember, you can access almost everything in the van from the outside doors on the side and back of the van. A GM van is a good van for sure.
