The best diet change I ever made was when I committed to stop eating sugar, because once you do that you stop adding sugar to your drinks, you avoid soft drinks, fruit drinks, bread, pasta and processed foods. That means no McDonalds, Taco Bell or any other fast food. Sure, sometimes I cheat when I celebrate someones birthday with cake and ice cream, but for the most part I avoid sugar, and I don't miss it. I do consume fruit and vegetables though, which I will never stop eating. I don't limit carbs from fruits and vegetables.
Kennedy is right about ingredients in foods hurting Americans. A simple rule that anyone can understand is stay away from sugar and any foods that are processed as much as you can. Stick to whole foods and you will avoid all these scientific chemical sounding ingredients that are harmful. I don't care how old you are, there is no good reason to be fat.
