For 2024, Harley Davidson released a new motorcycle for their Icon series called Hydra-Glide Revival. The new motorcycle is based on a 1956 Harley Davidson Panhead FLH model shown below. Hydra-Glide is a name originally given to Harley Davidson's hydraulic front fork suspension first released in 1949 on FL models.
You might be wondering, why would Harley use the name "Hydra Glide" for a motorcycle based on a 1956 model, and not a 1949 model when the hydraulic front forks were first used? Hyda-Glide was not only the name for Harley's new hydraulic front fork suspension in 1949, but it eventually was adopted and became a name for the motorcycle model that used the new forks. That's why the new Harley Davidson Icon motorcycle is called Hydra-Glide Revival, and is based on a 1956 FLH, and not a 1949 model. Well, that and the movie.
A 1956 Harley Davidson FLH is used in the new movie, The Bikeriders, release date: June 21, 2024, starring Tom Hardy, Norman Reedus and Austin Butler. The movie is inspired by a photograph book, The Bikeriders, by Danny Lyon, first published in 1968.
It's not a coincidence that Harley Davidson based their 2024 Icon motorcycle on a 1956 Harley Davidson FLH, and a 1956 FLH appears in a major movie ridden by the star, Tom Hardy, who plays Johnny, in The Bikeriders. There is no better marketing for a company than to have their product used in a major movie by a major film star.
